I’ve described my concept of Millennial’s Delight previously by way of an introduction to my Millennial’s Delight blog, in which I describe Millennial’s Delight as a whimsical lifestyle blog devoted to creative pursuits and the joy of new experiences. I wanted to expand on this concept and what motivates me to write this blog and catalogue my creative pursuits here and through various forms of social media. I find great joy in creating new things, in bringing to life new ideas across a variety of media and art forms. This blog, my TikTok, Instagram, and other social media are a tool for me to express myself and my core values. And at the heart of everything I do, whether in science, art, crafts, baking, or anything else, I am am guided by a profound passion for helping others, evoking joy, and striving to make meaningful impact on my community and beyond. To quote a YouTube Video that has brought me to tears on more than one occasion, I truly believe: “A simple act of caring creates an endless ripple.” I recommend you watch the video for yourself (I first saw it posted on reddit when I was in grad school), perhaps with a box of tissues handy.
Growing up is not easy for anyone, least of all without the socioeconomic means for basic needs like clean, safe shelter and food. But for all the challenges I have faced in my life (and there have been many, seemingly new interminable challenges to face at every stage of life), I have had profound support (financial and personal) from many people. Growing up in Florida, when I couldn’t afford clothes or books for school, I was a local “Christmas Angel” and strangers I have never or will never meet fulfilled my needs when my family couldn’t. My MIT undergraduate and Caltech graduate educations were paid entirely by scholarships and fellowships. And when I have personally struggled with many setbacks in my career and personal life, I have had so many incredible friends and colleagues who motivated me to persevere, even when times were very tough.
Generosity of spirit is hard to cultivate but easy to spot. It is something I strive for constantly in my own life. To me, it means planting seeds whether or not you will ever get to taste the crops they produce. Teaching others to do better than you instead of gatekeeping your knowledge and experience. Doing the right thing when no one is watching. For me, recycling the kindness and joy back into the world that I experience (and beyond what I directly experience) is my deepest passion, beyond any job title, profit, or accolades. Millennial’s Delight is the spirit of creating, growing, and making someone happy (including myself), even if for but a moment.
Overall, I am a highly motivated scientist, educator, artist, crafter, baker, and more, who is passionate about helping others, evoking joy, and striving to make meaningful impacts on my community and beyond.
