Cork Art

The companion craft to wine candles is cork art, where bottle corks are used to make cute designs. I particularly like cork art in the shape of animals.

For this piece (a cat cork animal), I began by using a champagne cork as the central body and cut up additional wine corks for the head and feet.

I added ears to the cat cork animal using card stock. The legs were attached to the body using toothpicks. I then painted the cat using acrylic paint. This cat was based on an actual cat (the cat of the person who had enjoyed this champagne bottle from which the cork came) and so I matched the colors of the actual cat with a gray body and green eyes.

I left the prominent Korbel label from the champagne unpainted to honor the cork as the source material for this tiny cat sculpture.

Another way I have used corks for art is to make them into key chains. This is a very fun way to preserve corks from memorable wine tastings or experiences.

This particular cork key chain came from a bottle I made into a wine candle and so all parts of the bottle were used for memorable craft projects.
