Recently I have enjoyed doing retro-inspired looks, particularly two takes on a 1950s-themed look: a classic version and a tropical version. These looks are not meant to be strictly historically accurate, but rather to capture the vibe of pin-up art from that time. I had a ton of fun creating these looks, both of which featured a stunning red lip and my red cherry earrings.
For my classic retro look, I started with a smokey eye featuring a bold winged liner. A simple smokey eye starts with a neutral shade on the eyelid (for me a creamy color to match my skin-tone), a medium gray in the crease, and a darker gray or black on the outer corner. This is followed with a black liquid liner (my current favorite is Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner). Finish with lots of mascara for big, bold, beautiful eyes. For the lip, I used a deep red matte lip color. The hair was achieved by first creating a French twist and then using my remaining hair to make a victory curl at the top of the twist. Many bobby pins were used to secure this look. A red headband was then used to complete the look.
For the tropical look, I started with the hair. For this look, I did a headband roll to make my hair appear shorter. The basic idea of this style is to start with a headband and wrap all of your hair around the headband, starting with the outer pieces of hair and working your way in. I paired this style with a deep side part to give it some glam since I naturally have a center part. For the makeup, I used a bold red color on the lid to make the eyes pop (Urban Decay is great for intense eyeshadow pigmentation). Similar to how I started the previous look, I started the eyes with a neutral creamy color on the lid, carved out the crease with a netural brown, and added the cherry red on the lid for a pop of color. And like the last look, I used a fun winged black eyeliner and plenty of mascara to complete the look. A bold red lip paired well with the red dress and earrings and a tiki drink with a mini umbrella were the perfect vibe for this island-themed look.

Overall I really loved how both looks turned out and will definitely play with more retro looks in the future like perhaps a mod look featuring graphic eyeliner.
