I’m just a little late to the pandemic plant game, but am excited to celebrate Earth day with my little collection of cat-safe succulents and flowers. I acquired these lovely specimens from the Armstrong Garden Center and I particularly selected plants that are cat-cat safe. Although my sweet Esmee (my tortie kitty) has never nommed on a plant I’ve brought home, I don’t want to take any chances with her health and well being.
I have three two areas for display of plants in my home at this time: my bay windows and my bathroom. My bay windows are home to my succulent collection as well as to bouquets that my partner will occasionally surprise me with. My succulents are arranged in two tiers, one on the window ledge and another on a sturdy window shelf I got from Amazon. They get tons of sun and I water them sporadically when I remember to and they are thriving. I also have cat grass in a cute cat mug amongst the succulents, which was given to me as a lovely housewarming gift. My cat smelled the grass once but was not into doing much more with it. The one type of plant I did not have success with in the window were my pansies (white and purple) which died shortly after being taken inside. If I have a place with a yard someday, perhaps I will try with pansies again but they were not long for this world indoors. The yellow sunflower-like plants sat by the bay windows opposite my succulents and were watered with a colorful yellow water bulb.
In my spa bathroom, I have some lovely pink flowers displayed with some whimsical macrame plant hangers. They get plenty of humidity from the bath/shower and I leave the bathroom light on during the day so they get plenty of light. I regularly collect petals from my flowers to use in my arts and crafts projects.
Happy Earth Day! I love my plant collection and am excited to continue growing and nurturing it. My plants bring a lot of joy and life to my apartment and I hope everyone has the opportunity to appreciate natural beauty on this lovely day.
